Nicholas Maggio

I'm a CU Boulder undergraduate studying Computer Science. I have work experience in full-stack development, cloud-based technologies (AWS), and data structure research.

I am proficient in C++, TypeScript, and Python in no particular order. At AWS I learned system design principles and applied them in production code. I'm an eager question-asker, quick learner, and self-starter.

Outside of software you can find me cycling, studying Japanese, or participating in a debate.

Terminal output of the compiler: AST tree followed by two semantic errors for adding a string to an int
C++ Compiler
C++, x86 Assembly (NASM), GTest
700+ GTest unit tests

A compiler for a subset of C++ covering lexing, parsing, semantic analysis, template instantiation, and x86 code generation, with NASM-backed assembly output that produces native Linux, macOS, and Windows executables. Correctness is checked by 700+ GTest unit tests against g++ and Clang behavior.

Four Snake boards rendered in the custom DirectX 11 window, one agent shown in green
Neural Snake
C++, DirectX 11, Win32
150 agents · 200 generations · custom renderer

A genetic algorithm trains a feedforward neural network to play Snake, evolving 150 agents over 200 generations with agent evaluation parallelized across CPU cores, which cut average training time 74 percent, from 9.3 to 2.4 seconds. Gameplay of the top agents is drawn by a from-scratch Win32 and DirectX 11 renderer, with no game engine or external graphics library.
